Fair trade is approaching €1.3 billion in 2018

Thanks to a 22% growth, fair trade achieves a turnover of nearly €1.276 billion at the end of 2018. Sales of fair trade products made in France (+34%) now account for 34% of the total, compared to 66% for international products (+17%). The average annual basket has tripled in 6 years to reach 19 euros, as underlines Fair Trade France in a press release published on the occasion of the 19th edition of the Fair Trade Fortnight which starts on May 11.
A movement that began a few years ago, fair trade products increasingly benefit from the organic label, in 84% of cases. "The success of products with a dual organic and fair trade label shows that consumers increasingly understand the relationship between economic justice and sociological justice," comments Julie Stoll, Executive Director of Fair Trade France.
