More than one organic store in ten in the hands of supermarket groups
The number of stores specialising in organic products has increased by a factor of 2.5 since 2010. A dynamics to which the conventional supermarket groups contribute, now accounting for more than 10% of the fleet.
In January 2010, there were only 748 organic specialty stores in France. Since then, the fleet has followed an exponential curve to reach 1850 points of sale in 2019…

The latest report from IRI GIRA Food service confirms the recovery of the out-of-home consumer market

According to the latest report by IRI GIRA Foodservice, out-of-home consumption in France was estimated to have reached nearly 87 billion euros in 2018. In terms of retail, nearly 76 billion are concentrated in the out-of-home catering sector (commercial and collective groupings) and the remaining 11 billion are spread over impulse circuits (the latter including bakeries, pastry shops, convenience stores, mobile and seasonal shops and service stations). Overall, the report lists approximately 260,000 catering points in France.

Franprix is testing a new version of its Darwin concept
Franprix new laboratory: The Casino group's urban brand presented the 2019 version of its Darwin concept based Rue de Réaumur, Paris. This 600 m² point of sale offers an enhanced catering offer. In addition to the traditional chicken legs, potatoes, pizzas, nuggets, fries, etc. are now being added. A counter called Esprit Frais, developed by Fleury Michon, displays salads and hot dishes (paella, ratatouille, etc.) to be reheated on site. As part of its zero-waste policy, Franprix also makes reusable containers available.

Belgium tour & visit to Terre et Eaux head office
The focus was on petfood this month for our Sutralis feed expert team. After a series of meetings with Belgian petfood manufacturers to promote natural ingredients, we visited Terres & Eaux head office in northern France to discuss innovative dog feed distribution for an Austrian client.

Terres & Eaux is a network of stores dedicated to nature lovers: hunting, fishing, horse riding. Usually located on the edge of large cities, the 16 stores in the network reach a wide range of customers.
Scottish delegation in Paris

From 8th to 10th October Sutralis welcomed a delegation of Scottish producers of honey, beers and spirits all interested to know more about commercial opportunities the French market could offer.

For this mission commissioned by the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, we organised a series of meetings in central Paris with premium hotels Le Bristol and La Réserve, the French office of spirits distributor Marussia Beverages, the online wine cellar Inter Caves, the bars chain Les Berthom, the delicatessen shop Les Epiciers Modernes, and to finish, two of the main high-end honey stores in the capital Miel Factory and La Maison du Miel.
“On 22 October, I visited NATEXPO the international trade show dedicated to organic products.

Although it is a small show in terms of number of exhibitors and surface, it is an excellent way to grasps latest trends in the organic segment in France. I also felt that this edition has given a bigger part to international exhibitors.

A big thank you to the companies who took the time to meet me and discuss about their project in France, and to our Dutch partner, Michèle Van Hasselt-Guibert who organised meetings with Dutch companies and exhibitors.”
